ABOUT
I was born and bred for art, with an actor father and an artist mother. My toys used to be borrowed for props in my dad’s plays and I ‘improved on’ (ruined) my mother’s paintings as a toddler.

As a practicing artist I exhibited, curated, taught and wrote art criticism and reviews, as well as working within the community based arts sector.

I shifted into full time work as an arts advisor in 2011 where I was able to advocate for accessibility and inclusion, community arts and events and fair pay for arts practitioners.
After ten years apart, the two aspects of my work came together in the ‘Equivalent Exchange’ series, portraits offered as koha to support community-led events. In this series, the portrait drawings are gifted to the participant in exchange for permission to take their photo. The watercolours are inspired by the photos and shared experience with the participant. It’s quite an intimate process, and the sense of connectedness and trust is something I really value.
The first Equivalent Exchange exhibition was part of the show, Unfinished, at the New Zealand Portrait Gallery.
